Depression

Its a dark place
where the sun has lost its way
Or shining the rays of dismay?

A forest of darkness
where  the corpses of the dead dreams
rots in oblivion
and the screams of aspirations
captured and tortured by failures
ravages the ear.

The Mind becomes the prisoner
of apprehension, just like a criminal
waiting for his execution.
A fateful tragedy.

Its dark but your eyes can see
the eternal gloom. Your ears can listen
to the sound of faith crumbling,
hopes shattering,
heart pounding,
mind numbing.
Its you succumbing
to depression.

  1. You have really captured depression here in all of its darkness and truth. Strong writing...and yes, so true that it is dark but the eyes can see the gloom as faith crumbles. Hopefully one can also at some point see the way out of this dark place.

  2. Such a difficult disease to deal with, especially if it is a lifetime ordeal. I believe it affects most of us at times due to certain circumstances and hopefully gives us the ability to understand and reach out to others.

  3. It can be this way but it does not have to be. We can welcome depression as guide, teacher friend and trawl the darkest depths of psyche to find the gold. But I do sympathise.

  5. Well..i've spent as long as 7 year stretches there..with the worst ways of numbness of a thousand years of death in one second true..

The psychiatrist says to me..there is no chance of recovery..i've never seen a case like this..

maybe WE will install a device in your chest..to stimulate your vagal nerve...

    but i'm here to say..

    to tell the truth...
    that at least for me..

    Miracles do happen..

    and the dead
    DO AND CAN
    AND
    WILL
    COME BACK TO LIFE...

    never EVER NEVER GIVE UP..

THINGS CAN AND WILL GET BETTER..

EVEN IF IT TAKES SEVEN YEARS..

    THE BLISS THAT COME

    TRULY
    IS
    A THOUSAND YEARS..
    OF TIME

    IN ONE SECOND..
    FRIEND...!

    IF NOTHING ELSE..IN THIS LIFE..

    I
    AM
    WITNESS TO THAT
    TRUTH!

  6. What a strong and powerful description of the descent into depression. I like the forest symbolism, the darkness and the rotting leaves. They convey the loneliness and the isolation starkly.

  7. I think this is something a great percentage of people suffer. I expect it's more than anything an imbalance, a malfunction somewhere - but it shapes reality for so many and yet, it seems great art is born out of it. Great explication of what it is like.

  8. Last two words unnecessary, as your description says it all. One doesn't have to be clinically ill to have felt this darkness. I have spent a bit of time in this place, I recognize it well. Good capture.

  13. As I read this I wondered if someone could describe it if they haven't experienced it...maybe so, but I wouldn't wish that deep of depression on anyone. I'm grateful I came out the other side. Well done.

  14. Having suffered from depression most of my adult life, this rings true. Great write about a terrible disease that doesn't get enough recognition. And there's a taboo with having it too, but I always always always speak publicly and loudly about it. Otherwise it'll never be taken as seriously as it needs to be.

    Best,
    Mike

  16. You've captured the depth of depression, the hopeless feeling that it will never end perfectly. For most it does pass, for some, sadly it truly is endless.
